Volunteer Application to Serve on a Committee

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recognizes the benefits to students, faculty, and the California Community College system that are gained by a variety of personal experiences, values, and views that derive from individuals from diverse backgrounds. The Executive Committee respects and is committed to promoting equal opportunity and inclusion of diverse voices and opinions. The Executive Committee encourages diverse California Community College faculty to volunteer in Academic Senate activities and supports local senates in recruiting and encouraging diverse CCC faculty to serve on Senate standing committees. Please note that the Academic Senate receives more applications than slots available. Therefore, submission of this application is not a guarantee of appointment.

Note: You must be a faculty member at a California Community College in order to be eligible to serve as an ASCCC representative.

Please select up to three options here.

What Senate Committee(s), task forces, ad hoc groups are you interested in serving?  Please note: you do not necessarily need to be an expert in each of these areas but instead have an interest in serving and a willingness to bring your local experience to the state level. While we will make every accommodation to appoint you to your first committee of choice, we may place you in any of the committees you listed in your top five.

While selecting committees is useful, we are better able to match you with your areas of interest if you provide us with those topics you have expertise or those areas where you would like to learn more about. Please share with us all areas you are interested in serving at the state level.

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recognizes the benefits to students, faculty, and the community college system gained from the variety of personal experiences, values, and views of a diverse group of individuals with different backgrounds. This diversity includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, age, cultural background, veteran status, discipline or field, and experience. We also understand that the California Community College System itself is diverse in terms of the size, location, and student population of its colleges and districts, and we seek participation from faculty across the system. The Academic Senate respects and is committed to promoting equal opportunity and inclusion of diverse voices and opinions. We endeavor to have a diversity of talented faculty participate in Academic Senate activities and support local senates in recruiting and encouraging faculty with different backgrounds to serve on Academic Senate standing committees and task forces. In particular, the Academic Senate acknowledges the need to remove barriers to the recruitment and participation of talented faculty from historically excluded populations in society.  [Executive Committee Policy -- 10.06 Inclusivity Statement.]

I give my permission for the information on this application to be made available to the Chancellor’s Office and other state, federal, or independent agencies that may request it for appointment purposes. I understand, as a condition of appointment, that a change in my faculty status (i.e., acceptance of an administrative position) or my inability to attend meetings will necessitate a resignation, and I will notify the Academic Senate President immediately, so that a replacement may be selected. I further agree to keep the Academic Senate President informed by written reports of the activities of the committee or other group to which I may be appointed. Thank you for your willingness to serve. The Academic Senate pool of applicants may exceed requests for appointments, but every effort is made to involve as many faculty as possible. Applications are valid for the academic year in which you applied. In order to be considered for future service, you must submit an application every year so we have the most up to date information for your application.
