A breakout session titled “E-Instructional Materials” was presented in support of this resolution at the Fall 2011 plenary session. The Chancellor’s Online Materials Fee Advisory Committee was convened prior to the Fall 2011 plenary session to address the issue of online materials fees and propose revisions to the Title 5 regulations. The committee recommended changes to Title 5 sections 59400, 59402, 59404, 59406 and 59408 that were approved by the Board of Governors in May 2012 and effective September 7, 2012.
Whereas, Electronic instructional materials have become increasingly common in both online and face-to-face courses in California community colleges;
Whereas, Interest in these materials is increasing, in part because they frequently cost less than traditional print materials; and
Whereas, Faculty currently using and those who are interested in using these materials may not have enough information available to them regarding effective practices for how these materials should be used;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges disseminate information to faculty, including recommendations, on the effective and appropriate uses and on the restrictions, regulations, and liabilities of instructional e-materials.
