Whereas, Formally stating and assessing student learning outcomes (SLOs) is required by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) 2002 Accreditation Standards, and SLOs and assessment have curricular and program implications, as well as a vital connection to accreditation, which are all areas of faculty responsibility clearly defined in AB 1725 (1988);

Whereas, Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) Coordinators conducting this work often act as agents of change on their campuses, changes which must be anchored in campus culture and target improved learning;

Whereas, Some California community colleges have no faculty SLO Coordinators and some SLO Coordinators are working without clear job descriptions, training, reassigned time, or opportunities to network together and exchange ideas; and

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has collected data, sample information and input from California community college faculty on issues relevant to SLO Coordinators;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the paper and recommendations in Agents of Change: Examining The Role of Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Coordinators in California Community Colleges. MSC Disposition: Local Senates, SLO Coordinators
