Krystinne Mica, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Krystinne joined the Academic Senate in October 2012 as an Administrative Assistant for the Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID). Throughout her time at the Academic Senate she has served as the Program Specialist, Program Manager, Associate Director, and most recently Chief Operating Officer. As Executive Director, she carries out a variety of responsibilities in these key areas: chief administrator for the 501 (c) 6 nonprofit organization; policy advisor to the Senate officers, Executive Committee members, committees, and others; and chief of staff. Other duties include facilitating and coordinating the agendas and activities of the Executive Committee and plenary session, advocacy for the roles of the Senate and for resources necessary for it to excel in its shared-governance responsibilities granted to the Senate under Education Code, Title 5, and Board of Governors. Krystinne graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Legal Studies and completed her MA in Education Leadership at Sacramento State. Her interest in education, student development, and law, lead her to the Academic Senate to work with statewide faculty on addressing issues affecting the California community college system.
Tonya Davis, DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION
Tonya joined the Academic Senate in July 2011. Throughout her time at the Academic Senate, she has served as the Executive Assistant, Events Coordinator, Office Manager, and currently the Director of Administration. She is currently responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Academic Senate, human resource management, staffing, event management, sponsorship opportunities, and assisting the Executive Director with organizational activities. Tonya brings over 18 years of professional administrative support and operational experience in the non-profit sector. She is committed to the work of the Academic Senate, its mission, and her professional development. Her collaborative leadership nature is an asset to the organization. She loves traveling, fashion and shopping, but her character shines most through her love for fashion.
Alice Hammar, DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Alice joined the Academic Senate in June 2017. She provides leadership, direction, and oversight of the accounting and finance department. Prior to joining the Academic Senate staff, she functioned as Accounting Manager for the CPA firm that provided accounting services to Academic Senate from 2013-2017. Alice brings a diverse background and experience in all facets of accounting functions, payroll expertise, HR, and business management. A native of the Midwest, she holds a B.B.A. with emphasis in Accounting and Finance from Wichita State University. A move to sunny Arizona provided the opportunity to own and manage two small businesses. Her two grandsons and life in the vibrant NorCal area were strong attractions for a move to Sacramento in 2011. She enjoys time with family and friends, and is proud to be a part of the Academic Senate team!
Kyoko Hatano, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Kyoko started working for the Senate in April 2004. She is responsible for many administrative tasks supporting the Executive Director, in cooperation with the other Senate staff members. Her duties include uploading the senate publications and resolutions to the website and maintenance of them in the database. She likes to travel back to Japan to see her family and old friends.
Miguel Rother, C-ID PROGRAM MANAGER
Miguel joined the Academic Senate in February 2016. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID). Under the direction of the Executive Director, Miguel supports the day-to-day administration of the (C-ID), and Open Educational Resources Initiatives (OER).
Selena Silva, PROGRAM MANAGER
Selena joined the Academic Senate in August 2019 as the Administrative Assistant providing administrative support for the Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID). Her current role is the Program Manager and is primarily responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of the Academic Senate’s grant programs. She received her bachelor's degree in Community and Regional Development from the University of California Davis. She enjoys knitting, crocheting, gaming, and playing with her cat.
Megan Trader, PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Megan joined the Academic Senate in March 2019. She is primarily responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration of the Academic Senate’s grant programs. Megan received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Sacramento State University, and enjoys curating an ever-growing book collection, creating textile art, painting, performance art and hunting for the perfect vintage dress.
Katie Nash, VISUAL DESIGNER
Katie joined the Academic Senate in March 2019, embracing everything design. Not only does Katie design, layout and oversee production to Rostrums, programs, annual reports and other publications but to all web and digital media as well as event materials. She will be the keeper of the Senate brand – making sure the organization is portrayed visually across all media platforms consistently and appropriately as provided by the Academic Senate Mission and Vision. Volunteering with the Sacramento Ad Club and WordCamp Sacramento allows Katie to help promote creative design and development in the Greater Sacramento area.
Emily Nicol, COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
Emily joined the Academic Senate in September 2021 as an Administrative Assistant and is now the Communications Coordinator. She currently supports the Executive Director in executing and monitoring communications, creating public relations and marketing materials, social media posts, newsletters and provides administrative support to the Open Educational Resources Initiative (OERI). Emily received her bachelor’s degrees in English and History from the University of California Davis, and received her Masters degree in English Literature and a certificate in the Teaching of Composition from San Francisco State University. She loves crafting, reading, writing, cycling, and tending to her ever-expanding collection of cacti and succulents.
Gina Lam, RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Gina joined the Academic Senate in September 2021 as a Research Associate. Her primary responsibilities are providing research analysis and support for projects. Her current research project focuses on measuring the impact of AB705. She received her bachelor's degrees in International Studies and Sociology from Fordham University, and her Masters degree in Sociology from Columbia University. Gina is also part time faculty at East Los Angeles College and Glendale Community College, where she teaches a combination of sociology courses. She enjoys playing beach volleyball, hiking, running, knitting, reading, writing, cooking, eating and gardening.
Kayla Vue, EVENTS PLANNER
Kayla joined the Academic Senate in March 2022 as the Events Assistant providing administrative and technical support to our events team. In her current role as the Event Planner she coordinates the production of our events from start to finish. She received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of California, Riverside in 2020. She enjoys reading, watching films, hiking, and exploring hidden gems in California.
Brando Jimenez, ACCOUNTING CLERK
Brando joined the Academic Senate in June 2022 as the Accounting Clerk providing day-to-day accounting and administrative support to our finance team. He received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Humphreys University and is enrolled in the master’s degree program for Business Administration. Brando also operates the family vineyard in the great city of Lodi. He enjoys hiking, farming, exploring and wine tasting.
Amy Liao, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Amy joined the Academic Senate in July 2022 as the Administrative Assistant providing administrative support to the Open Educational Resources Initiative (OERI). She received her bachelor's degree in Business Economics at the University of California, Irvine in 2021. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with her two dogs at home (Haru and Checker), cooking, playing video games, and creating art!
Patricia Carrillo, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Patricia joined the Academic Senate in October 2022. In her current role as the Executive Assistant, she is primarily responsible for supporting the Executive Director, the Director of Administration, the Board of Directors, and performing other administrative duties as provided by the Executive Director.
