2018 Curriculum InstituteSouthern California |
Event Date: July 11 (Pre-session) - 14, 2018 Event Location: Riverside Convention Center | 3637 5th St, Riverside, CA 92501 The 2018 ASCCC Curriculum Institute, "Reimagining the Student Experience", will take place at the Riverside Convention Center on July 12 - 14. The institute will cover pressing curriculum issues including the implementation of AB 705, quantitative reasoning, guided pathways, UC Transfer Pathways, curriculum streamlining, the Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI), and much more. There will also be a pre-session available on Wednesday, July 11 with sessions for curriculum chairs, curriculum specialists, administrators, and those interested in guided pathways. Colleges are encouraged to bring a team of individuals to the institute that includes the curriculum chair, CIO, and a curriculum specialist. For the first time, colleges will be able to bring up to seven team members, so make sure to reserve your spot now!

Faculty Leadership Institute will be taking place at the Sacramento Sheraton Grand 1230 J Street, Sacramento, CA. 95814 on June 15 - 17, 2017. The Faculty Leadership Institute is the cornerstone of the Academic Senate’s governance training. Created to assist new senate leaders navigate the complexity of local governance as well as become versed in state issues, the Faculty Leadership Institute brings seasoned leaders together to share tips and tools for new leaders to successfully lead their senate and influence their college policies. We highly encourage new and experienced leadership to join us for lively discussions about basic college governance and exciting state issues. Online ticket sales have ended. If you are interested in attending Academic Academy, please come to the registration desk onsite Friday October 7th at 9am. This professional development opportunity is focused on counseling and instructional faculty. The intention of this program is to highlight effective practices and cultivate a collaborative experience in service to the diverse population of students in our community colleges. Specific topics include:
The program will emphasize creating faculty partnerships in credit or noncredit to improve the collegiate experience and academic achievement of our students. These partnerships will further improve collaborative projects and initiatives by integrating classroom instruction, counseling, and student services. The Academy can inform and spark conversations around the role for all faculty in the following areas: creation and implementation of guided pathways of learning, recommendations of the Workforce Task Force, and other initiatives. Additional breakouts will address ongoing student equity planning and cultural competency in relation to the development of inclusive campuses to ensure student and faculty success.

Curriculum is the heart of what we do as educators. The Curriculum Institute is designed to bring together teams of individuals working on curriculum – administrators, faculty, and classified staff – and to provide a platform for interactive learning by all attendees. Informational presentations, direct training and guidance, and interaction with Chancellor’s Office staff make this Institute the most popular of the Academic Senate events. Join us in Anaheim to receive updates on important current curriculum topic and to learn ways to improve and develop local curriculum processes. Pre-session: The Curriculum Committee is excited to announce that this year’s event will once again include an optional pre-session workshop on Wednesday, July 6. In the afternoon there will be workshops designed for curriculum chairs, administrators, and curriculum specialists who are new to curriculum. The more seasoned curriculum enthusiast may find it beneficial as well. Additionally, there will be a morning workshop on the CTE Data Unlocked Initiative. The Data Unlocked workshop will run from 10:00 to 12:00, and the afternoon workshops for curriculum chairs, administrators, and curriculum specialistswill run from 2:00 to 5:00. The cost of attending the pre-session workshop is included in your registration fee. However, you must submit a separate registration for the pre-session workshop and be a registered attendee for the Curriculum Institute. Notice for CTE Data Unlocked Pre-Session Attendees:

Keeping our curriculum healthy requires our colleges to stretch, tumble, roll, drill, run, maneuver, and persevere through the curriculum race. Whether you choose to build noncredit endurance, boost Career Technical Education (CTE) potential, venture into innovative activities, or get an overview of heart-healthy curriculum, this year’s curriculum institute will explore topics intended to help everyone keep curriculum healthy in spite of the changing environment in which we live. |
