2020 Academic Academy - Virtual EventPathable Virtual Event Platform |
Interruptions in education are not new. Snow days, extreme heat, floods, and earthquakes can all lead to temporary school closures. In addition, California’s students may experience the extended disruption and devastating impact of fires. But a global pandemic requiring social distancing and the sudden cessation of traditional classroom instruction for an undefined time period is a force so impactful that our evolution is forced – is it education’s Big Bang, where we will emerge anew? Or is it our Ice Age, leading to the extinction of select species and the rapid evolution of the survivors? This year’s ASCCC Academic Academy will explore the impact of our recent history on the future of education. Join us as we explore the use of open and online approaches to finding ways to redefine instruction and assessment, create more equitable learning environments, address long-standing inequities exacerbated by reliance on technology, and improve the success of all students. |

Cancelled - 2020 Career and Noncredit Education InstituteSan Mateo Marriott - SF Airport |
March 18, 2020 Dear Colleagues, In an attempt to flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Governor Newsom ordered statewide cancellations of events of more than 250 people, and the CDC released additional guidelines suggesting that gatherings larger than 50 people be cancelled. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is heeding the guidance and has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Career and Noncredit Education Institute. The health and wellbeing of our staff, attendees, and community comes first and we understand that many of our colleges and faculty face additional loads, as colleges transition to remote learning or make the difficult decision of closing the campus. The Academic Senate is here to support you during this time. We are currently putting together some resources to distribute to the field to help support the transitions taking place locally. If you haven’t already, please contact the San Mateo Marriott to ensure your hotel reservation has been cancelled. The Senate Office is taking care of the registration refunds and will connect with all registered attendees on this shortly. **Please do not put a refund request into the Eventbrite system as we can no longer process them this way. We are working with Eventbrite on getting all refunds processed in a timely manner. We ask that you allow at least 30-45 days for refund processing.** We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me- krystinne@asccc.org. Take care of yourself and take care of each other, Krystinne Mica
