Forward to Accrediting Commission.
Whereas the Accrediting Commission's editorial committee in its proposed revision of the accrediting standards has omitted standards which required as good practice that institutions provide technical assistance and "support faculty.. in the production of instructional materials" (quoted from existing standards), and
Whereas this editorial committee has omitted reference to the institution's promotion of the "substantial use of library and learning resources" with "attention.. given to the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students", and
Whereas the Commission's suggestion that the heading of Standard Six should suffice to address the intent of the existing standard does not address our concern that these provisions be specified,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges strongly recommend to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges that the new standards contain the current requirements that institutions provide technical assistance and support faculty in the production of instructional materials and that institutions promote the substantial use of library and learning resources with attention to the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Accrediting Commission to substitute the word "instruction" for the word "training" in the new standards.
