The Faculty Development Committee revised its charge to include these functions so that the committee will make these affirmations as a regular part of its duties.
Whereas, Resolution 12.01 S02 encouraged local senates to support the reinstatement of AB 1725 staff development funding and to contact local legislators and community leaders to support the reinstatement of staff development funds;
Whereas, Resolution 12.02 S02 encouraged "local senates to use their local shared governance processes to develop plans for supporting faculty and staff development if the funds are not reinstated in the Governor's 2002 - 2003 budget";
Whereas, Resolution 12.02 S02 also encouraged "the Chancellor's Office not to lower staff development reporting requirements even if funding is not reinstated"; and
Whereas, AB 1725 funded faculty and staff development at $5.2 million to meet the critical need of training and retraining of California community college faculty and staff;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate actively support the achievement of student success through the restoration of state funding for faculty and staff development;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate work with other groups to educate the Chancellor's Office, the Board of Governors, and the Legislature concerning the connection between faculty and staff training and the critical issues of student access and retention, quality instruction, recruitment and retention of quality faculty and staff, issues of health and safety, and the integration of instructional technology; and
Resolved, That the Academic Senate urge the Chancellor's Office not to eliminate the monitoring and reporting of faculty and staff development activities. MSC Disposition: Board of Governors, Chancellor's Office, Local Senates
