Disciplines List - Statistics

Whereas, Both written and oral testimony given through the consultation process used for the review of minimum qualifications for faculty in the California community colleges, known as the "Disciplines List," indicated much greater opposition than support for adding the Statistics Discipline:

Master's in statistics OR Bachelor's in statistics or applied mathematics AND Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics OR The equivalent; and

Disciplines List - Instructional Design/Technology

Whereas, Both written and oral testimony given through the consultation process used for the review of minimum qualifications for faculty in the California community colleges, known as the "Disciplines List," supports the following change in the Instructional Design/Technology Discipline:

Master's in instructional design/technology or educational technology OR The equivalent; and

Whereas, The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, having evaluated this evidence, supports the revision;

Disciplines List - Humanities

Whereas, Both written and oral testimony given through the consultation process used for the review of minimum qualifications for faculty in the California community colleges, known as the "Disciplines List," indicates greater support than opposition to the following change in the Humanities Discipline:

Master's in humanities OR The equivalent
See Interdisciplinary Studies; and

Whereas, The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, having evaluated this evidence, supports the revision;

Disciplines List - Biotechnology

Whereas, Both written and oral testimony given through the consultation process used for the review of minimum qualifications for faculty in the California community colleges, known as the "Disciplines List," supports the following addition of the Biotechnology Discipline:

Bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences or Chemistry or Biochemistry or Engineering, and two years of full-time related work experience; and

Whereas, The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, having evaluated this evidence, supports the addition;

Communication with Community Colleges in Other States

Whereas, There are national issues and trends that affect community colleges not only in California but also in other states; and

Whereas, There may be benefits to the Academic Senate and the California community colleges in developing relationships with community colleges in other states;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges explore whether to establish a dialog or method of networking with faculty or academic senates in other states; and

Assessment of Inclusive Practices

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has a commitment to faculty diversity in all its forms as stated in its Diversity Policy; and

Whereas, The Academic Senate values self-reflection and evaluation of its responsiveness to all faculty across the state;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges conduct a self-study to assess the effectiveness of its efforts and the perceptions of the success of these efforts to promote equal opportunity, including collecting data on the inclusion of diverse voices and opinions; and

Use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Funds

Whereas, The State of California optimistically anticipated a one-time infusion of $138 million in ARRA funds for the community colleges;

Whereas, The System based its discussions of the 2009-2010 budget on the assumption that these ARRA funds would be available to backfill the anticipated cuts to student services categorical funds; and

Whereas, The reality is the community colleges will only receive $32 million in ARRA funds;

Concurrent Enrollment

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has taken several positions (4.01 S08, 4.01 and 4.02 Fall 07) in support of the expansion of opportunities for high school students to enroll in college classes, known as "concurrent enrollment," and advises that safeguards be in place as summarized in the adopted paper Minors on Campus: Underage Students at Community Colleges (2006);
